Ratings Corner: “For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils” and “Sunil’s Sick Day”

The return of the Princess of the Night drew many to the show. “For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils” drew 658,000 viewers, according to TV Media Insights, making it the third most-watched episode in show history. Combined with Sunday’s rerun (338,000), the combined viewership was just under 1 million. That figure of 996,000 makes it second behind the season premiere. MLP dominated the Hub charts taking 13 of the top 15 spots and 16 of the top 20 this week. The hot days for the show were Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday with three episodes each; followed by Wednesday and Friday with two episodes.

It is also the first time the show has received a 0.4 household rating since the season premiere. All other episodes but one this season (“Daring Don’t”) have had a 0.3 rating.

This was also the first week of time slot changes on the Hub to move the new episode of Littlest Pet Shop right after the new MLP episode. The first returns are somewhat encouraging as “Sunil’s Sick Day” drew in 293,000 viewers and placing 11th. However, that was still one place behind a Friday rerun of Pound Puppies. The drop-off remains steep as it retained just 45% of the audience from “For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils.” And for those remotely interested, Saturday’s re-airing of “Littlest Bigfoot”, now an hour after the first-run episode, tied for 63rd drawing 148,000 viewers. It will be intriguing to see how viewership will be in two weeks when it has its two-part season finale with a marathon (and no MLP) behind it.
